Back in the fall of 1997...the Big Red was making a run at an undefeated season.  7 men...all originally from St. Paul, Nebraska...decided that they didn't see enough of each other.  So, they planned a gathering.  This started the St. Paul Husker Club.  Brad Gillham, Preston Speece & Matt McCann all flew to St. Louis to stay at Jason Sidel's house.  Sid picked everyone up at the airport and after a quick (3-hour) stop at a local micro-brewery, they grabbed a keg and headed to his house.  The party lasted well into the evening & the friends shared old stories & made some new ones.  They awoke the next morning & road-tripped to Columbia, Missouri to meet up with 3 more friends: Ken Mathine, Kevin Mathine & Martin Swanson.  The group tailgated in the parking lot of the Campus Inn.  Thank Bob Devaney that it is stumbling distance to Faurot Field.  That night, the 7 charter members witnessed probably the greatest comeback in Husker historyand their first ever overtime game.  When Matt Davison came up with the snag on the fleakicker play with no time on the clock...the crowd holding hands waiting for the extra point...all the way to the sack of Corby Jones from Wistrom & Rucker to seal the deal in overtime.  Heck, we didn't even realize what had actually happened until after Gillham was pulled from his nachos while watching Sports Center.  What a play!  What a victory!  What a start to a lot of good times!  The same folks got with more of their friends in 1998 to watch Ricky Williams rush over the BlackShirts in Memorial Stadium.  We were back at it in 1999 in Missouri with Sid doing the hosting pre-game again and staying at the Campus Inn.  In 2000, the group traveled to Baylor short a few members.  The next big gathering was in 2003 to watch Penn State come to Lincoln.  Our number of charter members has gone from 7 to 5 with the loss of Matt McCann & Brad Gillham.  We still make sure they are there with us when we all get together.  This club is not only about Husker football...it is about friendship.

If you want to become a member...you just have to participate in one of our tailgates.  We look forward to seeing you.
